Thiwanka Jayamaha was awarded her Bachelor of Physiotherapy Degree from Western Sydney University where she graduated with distinction. She attained a place on the Dean’s Merit list with each year of her degree. Thiwanka received the Dean’s Medal for Outstanding Academic Performance in the final year of her degree. We are thrilled that she is a physiotherapist with our Mount Annan team.

Thiwanka first worked as a qualified graphic designer. A desire to help people, combined with a keen interest in health sciences, led to a turning point in Thiwanka’s life. She decided to pursue a career change to physiotherapy, and she has not looked back!

Thiwanka has gained international experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy by undertaking a work placement in the Netherlands. Thiwanka has developed an interest in running group exercise classes for falls prevention and hopes to launch these in Mount Annan.

Thiwanka has a special interest in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy and believes in empowering her patients in self-management and leading healthy lifestyles. In this field she utilises a combination of manual techniques and exercise. Thiwanka is currently taking part in a study exploring the benefits of running Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes in a private setting. Once the study has concluded, she hopes to introduce Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes in Mount Annan.

In addition to gaining her university qualification, Thiwanka is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). She has completed the APA Sports Physiotherapy Level 1 course.

In her spare time Thiwanka enjoys travelling and hiking with her partner. She has a passion for traditional Sri Lankan dancing and has been performing for 16 years. On a rainy day you will find Thiwanka curled up reading a book or working on one of her illustrations.
